Horst Janzen was painter, graphic designer, decorator, experimenter, sculptor, potter, antique collector, event organiser and art teacher.
An enormous creative force, as demonstrated by the astonishing large number of his works, his pleasure in collecting objects and antiques.
‘Every piece of nature..., a stone, an old object or even a nearby landscape, give me the desire to immortalise that object in the form of painting’ – extract from the diary
The relationship between humans and nature, and hence their environment, has an important role to play in Horst Janzen’s art. As an autodidact, he repeatedly showed experimentation and creativity in his art, used old material, such as organ pipes or brake pedals, and gave them new lives.
His free spirit and joy in collecting and processing any kind of objects meant that Horst never limited himself to a particular style. His work ranges from impressionist work to expressionism to surrealism.
