Abstract.

Besides his classical, representational paintings of people, landscapes, boats or houses, Horstjanzen also painted in a completely different and abstract way.

This abstract painting plays a large and important role in Horstjanzen's creative world; a world in which the viewer is given enough freedom for his own interpretation, with only hints of the material world.

An intensive observer enters an intermediate area of allusion to forms on the one hand, and distance to reality on the other. One often encounters geometric structures with and without a surrealistic touch. Landscapes dissolve into abstract structures, which show a fragile light character in delicate mixed tones. In some cases, this can lead to completely abstract colour structures.

Despite the surreal / unreal first impression of such a painting, one soon comes to the conclusion that an unbelievably strong harmony hovers over everything. The colours of the painting seem to spread a pleasant scent. One is dazed by the delicacy of the contours, by the skilfully arranged interplay between colours and shapes.
